Lock Rekey Service in Northwest Indiana

Rekeying is one of the most practical and cost-effective security steps a homeowner or business owner can take. If you just moved into a home, lost a key, ended a rental arrangement, or had a contractor with a copy of your key, rekeying makes all existing copies useless without buying new locks. Keys4U serves Highland, Schererville, Munster, Hobart, Crown Point, and all surrounding communities in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties.

What we handle

  • Move-in rekeying: Rekey all exterior locks so that any keys held by previous owners, real estate agents, or contractors no longer work.
  • Lost or stolen key rekeying: Neutralize the risk of a missing key without replacing functional hardware.
  • Tenant turnover rekeying: Rekey a rental unit after each tenant so prior occupants cannot re-enter.
  • Keying alike: Rekey multiple locks to a single key so one key opens the whole house or office.
  • Post-break-in rekeying: If a lock was compromised but not damaged, rekeying closes the gap left by a copied key.

How the rekey process works

The technician removes the lock cylinder, disassembles the pin stack, and replaces the driver and key pins with a new combination matched to a freshly cut key. The cylinder goes back into the same lock body. Most residential locks take about 10 to 15 minutes per cylinder. We test the new key several times before leaving to confirm smooth operation.

Price depends on the number of cylinders and whether any cylinders need additional parts. We give you the full quote before starting.

Call Keys4U at (219) 309-3988 to schedule a rekey, open daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock? +

Rekeying replaces only the internal pin tumblers inside your existing lock cylinder, so a new key works and all old keys stop working. The lock hardware stays in place. Replacement swaps the entire lock and is necessary when the hardware is damaged or you want to upgrade the security grade.

Can all my doors be rekeyed to one key? +

Yes, as long as the locks are the same brand or a compatible brand. We can key all cylinders alike so you carry a single house key. Mixed brands sometimes require hardware changes to achieve this.

How soon after rekeying does the old key stop working? +

Immediately. Once the cylinder pins are changed, the previous key will no longer turn the lock.
