Door Lock Repair in Northwest Indiana

A lock that sticks, wobbles, or fails intermittently is a daily frustration and a security risk. Keys4U repair calls cover the full range of residential and commercial lock problems across Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties. Our insured technicians diagnose the root cause before recommending a repair, so you are not paying to replace parts that did not need replacing.

What we handle

  • Sticking or stiff locks: Identify whether the issue is a misaligned door, a worn cylinder, dry internal parts, or a bent bolt.
  • Loose lock cylinders: Tighten or re-seat a cylinder that wobbles in the door, which can indicate a worn retaining clip or stripped mounting screws.
  • Misaligned strike plates: Adjust or relocate a strike plate so the bolt seats fully and the lock operates without force.
  • Broken or slow-returning latches: Replace a faulty latch mechanism that does not spring back into position after the door closes.
  • Interior thumb-turn failure: Repair or replace a thumb-turn that no longer engages or releases the deadbolt.
  • Lock damage after forced entry attempt: Assess and repair a lock that has been stressed by a kick-in or pry attempt.

Repair versus replacement

We always look for the repair option first. A full lock replacement is only recommended when the internal mechanism is too worn to function reliably after repair, or when the existing hardware is a security grade that should be upgraded anyway. If a replacement is the better value, we will explain why and give you a side-by-side comparison of the costs.

Frequently asked questions

My deadbolt is hard to turn. Is that a lock problem or a door problem? +

It can be either. A stiff deadbolt is often caused by the door shifting slightly out of alignment so the bolt rubs on the strike plate. It can also mean the lock cylinder itself is worn or dry. We inspect both the door and the lock to find the actual cause.

Can a worn lock cylinder be repaired, or does it need to be replaced? +

Minor wear, like a loose or stiff cylinder, can often be corrected by cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting the cylinder. If the internal pins or springs are damaged, a new cylinder is more reliable and often not much more expensive than a deep repair.

My door lock works from one side but not the other. What causes that? +

This usually points to a problem with the interior thumb-turn or the tailpiece connecting it to the cylinder. It can also indicate a broken return spring inside the lock body. We can diagnose and fix this in most cases during a single visit.
